Roberto Carlos Lange’s project known as Helado Negro just shared a set with Milwaukee fans at Cactus Club a couple weeks back, and surely those in attendance were treated to songs from his forthcoming EP, The Last Sound On Earth. The single “More” was recently issued, and listening to it makes it clear that Lange is getting more spacey and more existential than he has in a while.
The EP’s inspiration grew from a question Lange asked himself: What will be the last sound I hear before I die? He continued on that aural theme, saying, “When I wake up in the morning, I can listen to my ears tuning into the world around me. It feels like a blanket being pulled off my eardrums.”
I love that these songs were inspired by his journey into awareness and that this single is just a taste of the serious playfulness to come. The full EP is due out Nov. 7 on Big Dada Records, but you can hear “More” from Helado Negro on the latest episode of What’s All This using the player at the top of the page.
