Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have been heading for divorce for a while, with reports suggesting the couple had been living separate lives.
The turning point for the former couple came when the singer appeared to have quietly set up a home on his own, away from Nicole and their daughters.
Insiders have claimed that their separation was no secret among the circles they mix in and that the divorce had come to feel “inevitable.”
A source explained, “Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall.”
The Oscar-winning actress, 58, filed for divorce from the Grammy-winning country star, 57, on Tuesday, September 30, citing “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences.”
The insider added to People, “It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now. People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”
According to another insider, despite Keith moving out, Nicole had been trying to save their marriage. They said, “She didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
They added, “Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.”
Keith and Nicole married in 2006 and share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Nicole is also mom to daughter Bella, 32, and son Connor, 30, whom she shared with her first husband, Tom Cruise.
Keith and Nicole were last seen together over three months ago on June 20, when they attended the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis at GEODIS Park in Nashville.

The pair stepped out to the event just five days before their 19th wedding anniversary.
On June 25, Nicole posted a picture of herself with Keith on Instagram to mark their wedding anniversary. She wrote, “Happy Anniversary Baby @KeithUrban,” adding a red love heart emoji.
Nicole – who has been busy filming Practical Magic 2 in London – also recently posted an array of photos on the social media app, captioned “summer memories.”
The August 19 upload saw her share a variety of snaps with her daughters and extended family.
In August, a source said, “While Keith has been away on tour all summer, Nicole and her daughters have been inseparable, spending time together bonding. Now the focus is back to school in Nashville, where Nic has been getting the girls ready for the new year.”
