Comedian Theo Von is speaking out after causing concern among fans with remarks he made during his recent Netflix special. While performing at the Beacon Theatre in New York, Von told the audience, “I’m having a long month, I’m trying not to take my own life.” The comment quickly circulated online, sparking concern amongst fans.
Von took the opportunity on his podcast, This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von, to clarify his statement. He explained that his comments were not meant to be taken seriously. “I would never take my own life,” he said firmly. Von admitted that the show had its rough patches and that some members of the audience left before it concluded.
Describing it as “messier” and “choppy,” the comedian noted that he felt “off” during the show. He added, “People wrote articles saying, ‘This bombed.’ It wasn’t great. I didn’t love it.” However, he noted that he also received support from others, with many saying that they “loved” the show. He added, “But I didn’t think it was perfect, for sure. But I thought, let’s just look at the edit and see.”
Despite the difficulties, Von insisted that failure is an important part of his career journey. He said, “It wasn’t perfect, I’ll agree to that… I’ll eat failure for breakfast. It’s OK, man. It’s part of the job.” In addition, Von discussed the uncertainty surrounding the Netflix special’s future. He revealed that he and his team have yet to decide whether it will be reshot or modified.
