With the Oct. 3 release of Taylor Swift’s 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” the pop icon again finds herself a major talk of the internet — and homes, schools and workplaces around the world.
Wisconsin is no different.
Swift hasn’t performed in Wisconsin in a while, but less than two years ago, she came to the state to support her then-boyfriend — now fiancé — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
From Lambeau Field sightings to collabs with a prominent Wisconsin-raised artist, here are Swift’s ties to the state:
Taylor Swift came to Lambeau Field for a Kansas City Chiefs vs Green Bay Packers game
Let’s travel back to December 2023. That’s when Swift took her private jet to Green Bay to support her Kelce in his game against the Packers.
But, would love be enough? Not this time, as Green Bay would go on to defeat KC, 27-19. We know, we know, the Chiefs would go on the win the Super Bowl — again — that season.
And, let’s not forget that commotion-causing cozy, yet chic red teddy coat Swift sported at Lambeau. Badgers gameday inspo right there.
Taylor Swift’s collaborations with Wisconsin’s Justin Vernon of Bon Iver
Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, who has collabed with Swift several times, is Eau Claire-born-and-based.
He joined Swift on her “Folklore” album’s “Exile” track, which earned them a 2021 Grammy nomination in the best pop/duo performance category.
Vernon was also involved with five tracks on Swift’s album “Evermore,” including a writing credit on the title track. His parts were recorded at his April Base studio in Fall Creek.
Taylor Swift has performed in Milwaukee. But, it’s been years
June 8, 2011.
That was the last time Swift performed in Milwaukee.
During that sold-out show at the former Bradley Center — yes, that’s how long it’s been — she won the CMT Music Award for Video of the Year for “Mine.”
“I wish I could be there but I’m hanging out with 15,000 of my closest friends in Milwaukee,” she said, accepting the award live from the concert.
She played the state several times before, including at Summerfest, Country Thunder, County USA, Country Jam and Country Fest. She was country, remember.
Now, even American Family Field is “not big enough” for her, Swift’s longtime tour promoter Louis Messina told the Journal Sentinel in 2023 — the year the record-breaking “Eras Tour” began.
That meant Wisconsin Swifties flocked to tour stops elsewhere, from nearby Chicago to around the globe. They’ve also packed Turner Hall Ballroom and the Rave multiple times for DJ-led events featuring Swift hits.
Wisconsin Swifties have been able to catch her on the big screen
Though Swift hasn’t made a Wisconsin stop in quite a few years, Swifties in the dairy state, like the rest of the world, were able to catch the Taylor Swift “Eras Tour” movie in theaters.
And excitement was high, as fans showed the Journal Sentinel when the movie released in October 2023. Moviegoers flocked to local theaters, many dressing as different eras from Swift’s nearly two-decade-long career.
Now, fans again have another opportunity to see the pop icon on the big screen, with the Oct. 3 premiere of “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl,” timed with the release of her latest album.
The 89-minute film will include the premiere of the music video for the song “The Fate of Ophelia,” as well as behind-the-scenes footage and stories behind each of the album’s songs, Swift announced on social media Sept. 19.
The film we only be in theaters for the weekend, Oct. 3-5.
