On November 1, 2022, James Gunn would join DC Studios as Co-Chairman and CEO. Since then, he has helmed the new DCU initiative, which has included several critically acclaimed titles like Peacemaker, Superman, and the animated series Creature Commandos. However, after taking charge of the popular studio, Gunn has since admitted he understands his former boss, Kevin Feige, the President of Marvel Studios, more than ever. According to the Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn had this to say about his role at DC:
“I often see myself doing the same thing with directors or writers. So I understand Kevin more 1759525259, and I’ve learned a lot from him. I always liked Kevin. I never had problems with Kevin in terms of working with him. It was a really, really good partnership.”
Gunn previously worked with Feige to bring the beloved Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy to life. Each film in the set is considered one of the best the MCU has to offer and has achieved widespread praise. While James Gunn was the primary director on these films, he had to work with Kevin Feige to ensure each film fit within the larger universe. It makes perfect sense that Gunn would begin to empathise with Feige, considering their past and extremely similar roles.
Some fans are even holding out hope that Gunn and Feige’s mutual respect will lead to a major DC and Marvel partnership. While this might seem unlikely to some fans, it is already happening in the comics. Both DC and Marvel are working on several comic book collaborations featuring some of their most popular superheroes. Batman and Deadpool have already released one issue, and a collaboration between Spider-Man and Superman has recently been announced.
Although this amazing collaboration might not reach the studios’ cinematic universes, both Gunn and Feige’s mutual respect will undoubtedly lead to a more positive rivalry. Either way, both the DCU and the MCU are shifting in a major way. Hopefully, this positive trend continues well into the future, and fans will continue to enjoy an age of collaboration rather than division.
