Prince William has referenced his brother Prince Harry for the first time in several months during their ongoing public dispute. The siblings have reportedly been estranged for months after a highly publicized falling out.
When Harry visited the UK recently, he met with his father King Charles but avoided seeing his elder brother, the Prince of Wales. Their rift deepened after Harry claimed in his bombshell Netflix series with wife Meghan in 2022 that they “lied” to protect his brother.
He declared: “They were happy to lie to protect my brother” while Meghan was “fed to the wolves”. In the documentary, Harry also alleged that William’s team engaged in deception and planted stories. The news comes as Prince Harry refutes ‘false’ reports as to ‘tone’ of the reunion with King Charles.
Subsequently, Harry maintained he didn’t expose his “dirty laundry” through his revealing interviews. He stated: “I don’t believe that I aired my dirty laundry in public. It was a difficult message, but I did it in the best way possible. My conscience is clear.”
Now during a recent conversation with Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveller With Eugene Levy, when questioned about his son potentially becoming King, he referenced his brother Harry for the first time in months amid their very public conflict, reports the Mirror.
“It’s an interesting question and it’s a big question that one. Because there’s lots of things to think about with that. But obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better.
“That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up in – and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation,”.
When Eugene mentioned that the monarchy will be moving in a somewhat different direction, William responded: “I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that and I enjoy that change – I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, is the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”
While Harry has been vocal about his sibling, including in his tell-all book Spare, William has kept quiet about his brother and their ongoing rift. In his autobiography, he alleged the brothers engaged in a physical altercation.
Regarding what transpired, he claimed he offered William a glass of water before tensions boiled over. He penned in his book: “He set down the water, called me another name, then came at me. It all happened so fast. So very fast.
“He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”
