Smooth jazz will be in the air Saturday evening during the Youngstown Wine and Jazz Festival at the Youngstown Foundation Amphitheatre.
Brian Simpson – a master of the chill-groove genre – will be delivering the bliss-inducing instrumental jams.
The LA-based keyboardist and composer has produced dozens of smooth jazz hits over his career. His 11th album, “Midnight Groove,” was released in 2025.
Simpson’s long career includes touring for a decade with jazz fusion great George Duke, starting in 1990. He would go on to work with other artists, including James Ingram, Anita Baker, Dave Koz and Wayman Tisdale.
Opening the show will be the Michael Austin Project, led by the Warren-based saxophonist with his own smooth jazz style.
The gates to The Amp will open at 6 p.m., with music starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for the seated area and $10 for the lawn.

The Mahoning Valley is in the thick of festival season – also known as “summer” – and there are two going on today through Sunday:
- Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival, 343 Via Mount Carmel (near Choffin Career & Technical Center), Youngstown, opens at 5:30 p.m. today. It will be open from 5-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 (free for children age 12 and under). Learn more HERE.
- The Warren Greek Festival at St. Demetrios church, 3223 Atlantic St. NE, will be open from 4-10 p.m. today, 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1-9 p.m. Sunday.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are in action today through Saturday at 7 17 Credit Union Field at Eastwood, Niles. It will be their busiest home stretch of the season. Tonight’s game is a Buck Night, which means $1 general admission tickets, $1 hot dogs, $1 soft drinks and $1 for a 12-ounce glass of draft beer. Financial Wellness Night, presented by 7 17 Credit Union, will be Friday – and all seats are sold out. On Saturday, Scrappy Elf bobbleheads will be given away to the first 1,000 fans. Game times are 7:05 p.m. tonight and Saturday and 7:17 p.m. Friday.
