Donald Trump was celebrated for three days while in the UK for a state visit, and now he’d like to return the favor, but according to one royal expert, it’s going to be hard to match.
There’s been talk of Trump inviting King Charles and Queen Camilla for a state visit, which the White House has confirmed, but according to Pauline Maclaran, the US state visit will pale in comparison to the “fest” that was thrown in Trump’s honor.
Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and professor at Royal Holloway, went over how the state visits will differ.
Maclaran explained: “I think it would be hard to equal all the colorful ceremonial rituals that took place for the Trump visit – the military displays and carriage rides, etc. – but there will still be state banquets, glamorous outfits, as well as other opportunities for visual feasts, never mind all the speculation that goes on around such a visit.”
She added: “The latter provides lots of fairly innocent entertainment and Trump is likely to once again welcome distractions from whatever scandal he’s involved in at the time – there’s sure to be at least one!”
We may be getting ahead of ourselves, as the invitation has yet to go out, but it’s being predicted it will be accepted, as it’s part of Charles’ role as a constitutional monarch.
According to Maclaran, Trump wouldn’t miss an opportunity to spend more time with the royals, as he is quite smitten with them.
During his speech at the state banquet, Trump referred to Charles as his “best friend,” which was quite sweet, and we do look forward to this budding bromance blossoming even more with a “third date,” disguised as a state visit.
