Travis Kelce has candidly opened up about how he really feels about birthdays as he turned 36 this week – and why the day doesn’t mean much to him
NFL star Travis Kelce is gearing up to turn 36th this week, but has revealed why he’s not a fan of birthdays.
Speaking on the latest episode of New Heights, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end celebrated the milestone on October 5, and shared he’s never been one to make a big deal out of birthdays, calling it “just an annoying day.”
“It’s not a good day, it’s just an annoying day for me,” Travis told his brother and co-host Jason Kelce. “I don’t want to get into the Grinch of birthdays but I’m just not in on birthdays.” His admission comes just days after his fiancé, Taylor Swift, showed support towards him at the Chiefs vs. Ravens game hours after Selena Gomez’s wedding.

Kelce is known for his high-profile relationship with the pop singer. The two began dating in 2023 and announced their engagement on Instagram on August 26. The caption of their Instagram post read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”
During the podcast episode, Jason briefly tried to steer the conversation toward Travis’ past performance during his birthday week, but the younger Kelce wasn’t interested.
“I don’t think we should look that up, because I don’t think they’re very good,” he quipped. Despite his birthday blues, the 13-year NFL veteran is still going strong. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift, has quietly been throwing support towards his games.
She has already made appearances at both of Kansas City’s home games this season, and was seen at Travis’ alma mater Cincinnati’s match against Nebraska.
On Sunday, Swift secretly supported Kelce, during the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Baltimore Ravens game at Arrowhead Stadium.
The 35-year-old singer is said to have made a quiet entrance to the game, as she was not shown on the NFL broadcast. However, fans reportedly spotted her father, Scott Swift, and her brother, Austin Swift, in attendance, while Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, also cheered on from the private box.
It comes after Swift appeared on New Heights in a record-breaking guest spot last month, where she and Jason explored her love of numerology – a topic that resurfaced as the brothers discussed Travis’ upcoming birthday.
“I don’t know, is there any numerology? What’s the numerology with 36?” Jason wondered aloud. “Half of 72. Yeah. Twelve times three. Baker’s dozen. I don’t even know where I’m going with this.” Travis, clearly unbothered, replied, “Alright. Exactly.”
