Taylor Swift’s Showgirl era has reportedly been overshadowed by controversy following allegations that her new single, “Wood,” bears a strong resemblance to the Jackson 5’s 1969 hit “I Want You Back.” Sources claim that the new track is an exact copy of the classic. Some also accuse her of lifting the “entire groove.”

Industry insiders told Rob Shuter that the rhythm and melody of Taylor Swift’s song “Wood” not only draw inspiration from “I Want You Back” but are almost a copy of it. According to one producer, “She didn’t just take inspiration — she lifted the entire groove. It’s Motown wrapped in glitter and marketing.”

In response to these similarities, entertainment lawyers are reportedly reviewing potential copyright claims on behalf of Berry Gordy and The Corporation, the creators of the original track. “The Life of a Showgirl” continues to dominate streaming and vinyl sales. However, the allegations threaten to overshadow what was expected to be another record-breaking moment in Swift’s career.

The singer has faced additional backlash for reportedly preventing fans from buying individual tracks from her new album, forcing them to purchase the full 12-song record instead. A top music executive told reporters that the move was “her way of controlling the market.” According to the source, “You want one song? You buy twelve.”

Despite the criticism, industry insiders say Swift remains unfazed. “Controversy sells,” one insider noted. They added, “Taylor just made another fortune off it.”

The pop sensation released the highly anticipated album on October 3 through Republic Records. Collaborating once again with renowned Swedish producers Max Martin and Shellback, Swift co-wrote and co-produced all 12 tracks during the European leg of her 2024 Eras Tour.

The album dives into themes of love, fame, self-discovery, and the reality behind the spotlight. The title track includes a special guest appearance by Sabrina Carpenter. Swift said she wanted to capture the “exuberant, electric, and vibrant” emotions she experienced while touring.
