Status update: A new Facebook movie is in the works.
Aaron Sorkin is working on a sequel to 2010’s Oscar-winning The Social Network — and the social media giant is “pissed,” a source exclusively tells the National Enquirer.
Sony Pictures announced on Friday, September 26 that the film will be called The Social Reckoning and is due out on October 9 next year, via Variety.
Now Facebook, now known as Meta, “is threatening to withdraw from any association” with the movie studio, the source tells the Enquirer.
The West Wing creator, 64, who won an Oscar for writing the first movie, will also be taking over directing duties from David Fincher.

Deadline reported that the sequel will be based on “The Facebook Files,” a series of Wall Street Journal articles that alleged employees at the company knew of social media’s harmful effect on kids and teens as well as its role in spreading misinformation.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jesse Eisenberg, who was nominated for an Oscar for playing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the original film, passed on the sequel.
Instead, Succession’s Jeremy Strong will play the tech billionaire. Anora‘s Mikey Madison, The Bear star Jeremy Allen White and comedian Bill Burr will also star, per Sony via Variety.
