Even almost 20 years after Rachel Dratch left Saturday Night Live, she can still recall her favorite stories during her time on the late-night sketch comedy show.
Dratch, 59, was a cast member on SNL from 1999 to 2006, making her debut during the show’s 25th season and staying for seven seasons. She was best known for her iconic SNL character Debbie Downer, the lovably pessimistic character who brings down the mood of any happy environment with her bleak observations. She also impersonated many celebrities during her tenure, including Daniel Radcliffe, Drew Barrymore, Britney Spears, Monica Lewinsky, Kelly Osborne and many more.

On Tuesday, Dratch appeared as a guest on Amy Poehler’s podcast, Good Hang, where the two discussed their days together on SNL, growing up in Massachusetts and how her Debbie Downer character was inspired by a trip to Costa Rica. Poehler was also a cast member on the show from 2001 to 2008.
One of the stories mentioned on the podcast was the time Dratch got high during her time at SNL, thanks to a joint given to her by The Black Crowes.
The Grimsburg actor started off the story explaining that she doesn’t do drugs often and never gets high, but someone from the show’s music crew offered Dratch to take a hit from a joint.
“I came back to the table and I was like ‘Oh, I guess, this is, I’m like really high right now,’ and I was so embarrassed cause [I was with] like my little cousin and I never ever get high,” Dratch recalled.
“I remember you telling me you couldn’t get up from your chair,” Poehler responded, which Dratch said that she didn’t remember that part, but “it’s possible.”
Poehler then asked Dratch what interested her in taking the hit, to which the comedian responded with “I was feeling a little jaunty that night. I don’t know.”
Currently, Dratch hosts her own podcast, Woo Woo with Rachel Dratch, alongside TV writer and comedian Irene Bremis. New episodes come out every Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Good Hang with Amy Poehler releases new episodes every Tuesday, and can be streamed on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts and The Ringer. Poehler will also be hosting SNL this Saturday, with musical guest ROLE MODEL.
