“The Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Kandi Burruss is taking her business skills and musical abilities back to the Broadway stage, joining the cast of the hit musical “& Juliet.”

This isn’t the first time the Grammy-winning songwriter has graced the stages of New York City’s famed theater district.

Kandi Burruss previously joined the cast of “Chicago” in 2018 and was part of the producing team for the critically acclaimed 2025 production of “Othello.”

According to a report from Variety, Burruss will make her grand return to the Broadway stage as Angélique from December 11 to March 8, 2026.

“I could not be more thrilled to return to the Broadway stage in this incredible musical,” she said. “As a songwriter myself, I am such a fan of Max Martin’s genius mind, and to get to come back to Broadway in this joyful musical that celebrates his catalog is a dream come true.”

The reality star’s surprising return to Broadway comes months after the veteran Bravo star revealed in February 2024 that she had no plans to return to “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” a show she had been on since 2009.

Of course, Burruss is no stranger to the music world, having penned Grammy-winning hits for iconic groups like Destiny’s Child, TLC, and her own R&B girl-group, Xscape.

In 2018, she joined the cast of “Chicago” for a limited eight-week run, taking on the famous role of Matron “Mama” Morton, previously played by her “RHOA” co-star, NeNe Leakes.

Several years later, in 2025, Burruss took a seat at the producers’ table for an adaptation of the Shakespearean classic, “Othello,” starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal.

As previously reported by The Blast, Burruss’ production of “Othello” went on to become the highest-grossing play in Broadway history, earning nearly $3 million over just eight performances after its March 2025 opening.

“& Juliet,” the production Burruss is joining, is a jukebox musical that puts a unique spin on Shakespeare’s famed “Romeo & Juliet,” according to Variety.

The musical reimagines the classic tragedy by asking what would happen if Juliet didn’t die at the end of the original story. The musical is powered by the iconic pop music of famed producer Max Martin, featuring hits he created for stars like Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, including “Since U Been Gone” and “Roar.”

“& Juliet” premiered at the Manchester Opera House in September 2019 before moving to the West End in November of that year. At the 2020 Laurence Olivier Awards, the show received nine nominations and won three, including Best Actress in a Musical.

The show transitioned to Broadway in 2022 and was nominated for nine Tony Awards.

During a previous interview, Burruss reflected on why taking on these Broadway roles—both as an actress and producer—is so important to her.

“In the opportunities that I get, I’m always trying to elevate and make way for more opportunity for people like myself. For Black people, people of color, and women,” she said. “We had people coming to New York to see a show [who’d never been to Broadway before]… We’re not just waiting for the people who already go to shows. We’re making our shows the destination.”

Ultimately, though, Burruss revealed that her primary goal is to be recognized as one of the greatest entertainers of all time.

“I have big dreams, y’all,” she said. “Y’all know I want to win a Tony [Award].”
