Turning Point USA, the non-profit organization dedicated to promoting conservative politics founded by Charlie Kirk, has announced plans to host an “All American Halftime Show” for the 2026 Super Bowl on Feb. 8.
The halftime show would serve as an alternate option to the NFL’s official halftime show, which will be headlined by Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Bad Bunny.
The alternate halftime show is dedicated to “celebrating faith, family and freedom,” according to the official website.
Though many details about the show have not been announced, the organization is conducting a survey to gauge interest in specific genres for the show.
The options listed are Americana, classic rock, country, hip-hop, pop, worship and “anything in English.”
The NFL’s decision to feature Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Martínez Ocasio, was met with criticism from some due to his all-Spanish discography.
“No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest-rated television events of the year… not just for sports,” conservative commentator Danica Patrick said in a post on X.
President Donald Trump also weighed in on the controversy.
“I’ve never heard of him,” the president said when asked about the NFL’s decision. “I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s, like, crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
Martínez Ocasio was the most-streamed artist globally on Spotify from 2020 to 2022. His album “Un Verano Sin Ti” remains the most-streamed album on the platform and was the first Spanish-language record nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys.
