David Byrne and Hayley Williams have finally shared their latest musical collaboration, which will feature in the upcoming Netflix animation, The Twits.

Their new single, ‘Open the Door’, will appear at the end of the film, which is based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book originally released in 1980.

The official synopsis of the book adaptation reads, “The Twits is a wild, surreal and one-of-a-kind comedy, which sees a pair of nasty pranksters finally meet their match: a brave little girl and her band of friends.”

On the tune, Williams sings the first and second verses, opening the song with the words, “Tears are like magic and laughing is fun / If you can have both of them, why just have one? / Everything matters and all things belong / Fear is the same place that courage comes from.”

The refrain throughout the chorus, in which both musicians sing in harmony, is, “Open the door, look what we’ve done / Open your heart, how far we’ve come.” It

The Twits director, writer, and producer Phil Johnston has previously opened up about how this iconic collaboration originally came about. He shared in a statement, “When David and I started talking about an end-credit song, the first potential collaborator David brought up was Hayley Williams.”

Johnston added, “The first word I said was ‘yes.’ Followed by ‘please.’ I still can’t quite believe that two of my favorite songwriters wrote a song together for The Twits. The saying, ‘never meet your heroes’ simply does not apply here. I met two of them, and boy howdy, it’s been a dream come true.”

William echoed that sentiment, sharing, “I owe David Byrne for pulling me into the music for this.” The Paramore singer continued, “It was so fun and so surreal starting a song from scratch with him.”

The pair are frequent collaborators. Williams most recently featured on the David Byrne track, ‘What Is The Reason For It?’, while Byrnes has been consistently performing a cover of the classic Paramore track, ‘Hard Times’, on his recent Who is the Sky? tour.
