The holidays have come early for fans of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. The Boss announced a world tour and new album Sunday night.
“Well, things are starting to heat up down on E Street,” Springsteen posted on several platforms, including brucespringsteen.net.
“A lot of you have been hearing that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be on tour in 2012. That is absolutely correct. The European dates run from the middle of May until end of July and are being announced this week. Info on the U.S. dates and the world tour dates will coming up shortly.
“In addition, we want you to know that the music is almost done (but still untitled), we have almost settled on the release date (but not quite yet), and that we are all incredibly excited about everything that we’re planning for 2012. That’s all the info we have for right now, but we’ll get back to you — real soon.”
Four dates in the United Kingdom — three in June and one in July — were announced Monday.
The tour will be the band’s first since the death of saxophone player Clarence Clemons in June.
The discussions among fans about who will play saxophone on the upcoming tour — or if there even will be a saxophone player on the upcoming tour — are bound to heat up also.
Details have been scarce about the upcoming album, but the [Asbury Park Press] has learned from sources that Billy Brown of the Moments and Ray, Goodman and Brown fame has been recording with Springsteen.
It is not known whether this is for the upcoming album, some other project or just for the fun of it, but the possibilities are enticing.
Springsteen and Brown are both Freehold kids who moved to Asbury Park to take part in the city’s music scene in the ’60s. The two performed “Stand By Me” together at Wonder Bar in Asbury Park in April.
Springsteen’s representative had no comment about the Springsteen-Brown collaboration.
