King Charles and Prince William are said to have been consulted over the decision
Prince Andrew has announced he will give up all of his royal titles and honours following discussions with members of the Royal Family.
It is understood that King Charles and Prince William were part of talks which took place before Andrew’s announcement on Friday, October 17.
Andrew will no longer be referred to as the Duke of York – a title bestowed on him by his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II.
This means the 65-year-old will also lose the titles of the Earl of Inverness and Barony Killyleagh.
Andrew has agreed to not use the honours given to him as a Royal Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter.

He will now just be called Prince Andrew, The Sun reports.
His prince title is in accordance with Letters Patent issued in 1917 by George V, updated by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2012.
Andrew remains a prince as he is the son of a monarch.
Andrew was stripped of his military titles by the late Queen in January 2022 as he defended a civil sex case against alleged accuser Virginia Giuffre, which saw him come to a multimillion pound settlement.
Andrew’s daughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice will not see a change to their titles.
Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, was given the title of Duchess of York on their wedding day in 1986.
She will also drop her Duchess title, it has been confirmed.
Despite handing his titles, Andrew will remain at Royal Lodge as he has a ‘cast iron’ tenancy until 2078.
Andrew’s statement read: “In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first.
“I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life.
“With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further.
“I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me.
“As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
