Fans of the Daytime Emmys were disappointed when it was announced earlier this year that the 2025 ceremony would not air on television, but instead stream exclusively on the official Emmy website and app. Now, Adam Sharp, President & CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), has addressed whether the beloved award show will return to broadcast television in the future.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Sharp discussed the future of the Daytime Emmys’ broadcast home.

When asked about the show’s broadcast future, Sharp responded candidly, “We’ll see how it goes.”

The move away from traditional network broadcast wasn’t a complete surprise for longtime viewers who have adjusted to the award shows ever-changing landscape over the last decade.

In 2012, the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awardsmoved from network television to HLN. The show held its first online broadcast in 2014 for the 41st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, later airing on Pop (2015), and YouTube (2016-2019), before finally returning to broadcast television with CBS in 2020 with the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

Sharp noted that the timing of the CBS merger complicated renewal discussions, as the broadcast deal’s expiration affected ongoing conversations. “It’s an evolving conversation and certainly, an evolving marketplace,” he explained. “Having our deal come up with CBS at the same time of their merger was not the best of timing. It’s possible that window of conversation will open under new management.”

Still, Sharp admitted that the landscape for viewers continues to change, and traditional broadcast may not be the best outlet for the award show, adding, “But, at the same time, we have to acknowledge that it is a different marketplace for viewers.”

In recent years, various other award shows have moved away from traditional network television, with the largest being the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACM Awards), which has streamed exclusively on Amazon since 2022.

Viewers can watch the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on the official Emmys website or by downloading the official Emmys app on all major streaming platforms.
