Elizabeth Taylor’s son says his late mother would have adored Taylor Swift — and he’s thrilled the pop icon continues to honor her legacy.
In an interview with People published on Wednesday, October 22, Christopher Wilding, 70, said he was “delighted” by Swift’s reference to his late mother in the eponymous track on her Life of a Showgirl album.
In the lyrics, the pop star, 35, gives a few nods to the glitzy La Liz, referencing her violet eyes and escapes to one of her favorite places: Portofino, Italy.
“She and my mom do seem like kindred spirits,” Wilding told People. “They are both the very embodiment of female empowerment.”
“The way [Swift] has deftly captured the similarities and parallel tracks in their careers and personal lives is delightful,” he added.
The glamorous Cleopatra icon — who died in 2011 at age 79 — is the subject of a new Kim Kardashian–produced docuseries, Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar, now streaming on Fox Nation.
For all of the “Opalite” singer’s musical fangirling, the late actress’ estate is giving her a nod right back — by releasing a limited “showgirl”-themed collection inspired by the song, with proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, per People.
“Her life has been lived and her time in the spotlight is now over,” Christopher added to the outlet, “but I hope that who my mother was as a person and the fearless life she led will continue to inspire generations to come.”
