Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Régine Chassagne are calling it quits after 22 years of marriage.

The former couple announced their separation in a statement posted on the Grammy-winning band’s Instagram page on Thursday, Oct. 30.

“They continue to love, admit and support each other as they co-parent their son,” the statement read, referring to the couple’s son, who was born in 2013.

In the statement, Arcade Fire also hinted at the future of the band. “Their work in Haiti with KANPE continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire,” the statement continued. “The band send their love and look forward to seeing you all on tour soon.”

Butler, 45, and Chassagne, 49, married in 2003.

In August 2022, multiple women accused Butler of sexual misconduct in a report published by Pitchfork. Butler admitted to having affairs but denied any wrongdoing. Chassagne issued a statement of support for Butler at the time.

“While these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behavior,” Butler said in a statement to Pitchfork in 2022. “As I look to the future, I am continuing to learn from my mistakes and working hard to become a better person, someone my son can be proud of. […] I’m sorry I wasn’t more aware and tuned in to the effect I have on people – I f—– up, and while not an excuse, I will continue to look forward and heal what can be healed, and learn from past experiences.”

Butler went on to tell the outlet that Chassagne was his “soulmate” and was “lucky and grateful to have her by my side.” He later added that Chassagne “waited patiently watching me suffer and tried to help me as best as she could. I know it must have been so hard for her to watch the person she loved so lost.”

In her own statement to Pitchfork, Chassagne called Butler her “soulmate” and said she stood by him because “I know he is a good man who cares about this world, our band, his fans, friends, and our family.”

“I know what is in his heart, and I know he has never, and would never, touch a woman without her consent and I am certain he never did,” Chassagne said in 2022. “He has lost his way and he has found his way back. I love him and love the life we have created together.”

Arcade Fire’s current lineup includes Butler, Chassagne, Richard Reed Parry, Tim Kingsbury and Jeremy Gara. The band’s most recent album, Pink Elephant, was released in May. Their 2011 album The Suburbs won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
