It appears that the case of Andrew had been stalling for far too long given the back-and-forth that went on between King Charles and his brother.
Just months ago, it all seemed to have reached a stalemate with Andrew still being seen with the royals in public. Charles, who has been undergoing cancer treatment since the past year, faced criticism for being a “weak king”.

The Buckingham Palace statement was clear in its verdict that it no longer wanted any association with the disgraced member of the royal family, “notwithstanding the fact he continues to deny the allegations against him”.
According to journalist, Emily Maitlis, who famously conducted Andrew’s Newsnight interview, that scenes behind the Palace doors are in stark contrast.
She claimed that William is actually “concerned” about the mental health of his uncle given that he has always been very vocal about the issue. There has also been “nervousness” from Princess Anne and Prince Edward about Charles’s bold reaction to Andrew as they didn’t want him to “go too hard” on him.
The royals possibly feared Andrew would take a drastic step.
Emily emphasised that it was actually the King himself, who had “nerves of steel”, to take the step. She shared that there was a “strong push back” from Andrew.
Eventually, Charles told his brother, in a loosely quote phrase, “you’ll topple us all” and Andrew did not want the weight of that on his shoulders.
Fears had only grown for the protection of the monarchy and the family name and not about how the victims would feel, contrary to the statement from the Palace.
