When High Potential first premiered in September 2024, fans were curious to see Kaitlin Olson try her hand at a new series outside of It’s Only Sunny in Philadelphia.
High Potential follows Morgan (played by Kaitlin), a single mother of three, as she’s recruited to be a consultant for the LAPD Major Crimes Division. She works with Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata), but the two have different methods for solving cases that prove to be both unintentionally hilarious and highly effective. And clearly their chemistry intrigued fans, as the ABC series got renewed for season 2 and began airing new episodes in September 2025.
Even though the show has proven to be a popular choice for viewers on Tuesday nights, fans will be disappointed to know a new episode of High Potential isn’t airing tonight on ABC. But fear not, because it won’t be long before new episodes make their way to TV.
When does High Potential season 2 return with new episodes?
Make sure you mark your calendars, because a new episode of High Potential season 2 is set to premiere on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
Why isn’t High Potential on tonight?
As for the reason why High Potential isn’t airing a new season 2 episode tonight, this is due to the fact the show aired its midseason finale on October 28. In fact, the show’s official Instagram confirmed there would be a slight hiatus with a promo posted on October 29.
“Let’s skip the details and get right to it! 🤭,” the caption read at the time. “The case continues when #HighPotential returns for its winter premiere Tuesday, January 6 on ABC and stream on Hulu.”
When fans learned about the fact High Potential would be pausing on airing season 2 until the new year, many were disappointed by the prospect.
“Uhhhh who told yall it was okay to do a mid-season finale?!? We just got it back 😩😩,” one person lamented in the comments. “My favorite show!!! Can’t wait till January 6th ❤️❤️,” another exclaimed. “The fact that the season just ended so abruptly. I’m disgusted and disappointed 😂🥺. Who do I contact?” a different viewer joked.
While it’s going to be a little while before High Potential returns to our TV screens, we all can appreciate just how successful the show has been thus far. And as Kaitlin shared in an interview with Esquire in October 2025, she has a good reason for why people may relate to the series.
“A lot of people can relate to Morgan. It’s nice to see a person who might seem very put together but be a bit of a mess,” she told the outlet. “Someone who is a really good mom but a f— up in real life. She doesn’t take herself too seriously. She doesn’t flaunt the fact that she’s smart. It’s disarming. She’s just doing whatever she can to make it work and make sure her kids are good… That might have something to do with it.”
After this, we’re certainly looking forward to seeing what’s in store on High Potential!
