There are stranger things than David Harbour’s latest press tour.

New details have come to light on why the Thunderbolts* star was not featured alongside costars Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp and Sadie Sink last month when they were promoting the final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things.

As it turns out, David was never confirmed for the interview junket, so he actually didn’t pull out of any appearances, a source with knowledge told E! News. Instead, the 50-year-old is currently in production on Courteney Cox’s new movie Evil Genius, according to Deadline.

Despite his busyness last month, David has been cleared for and is expected to attend Stranger Things’ season five premiere in Los Angeles Nov. 6, the insider shared.

E! News did not receive comment from Netflix when asked about David’s absence from the press tour. E! News has reached out to a rep for David for comment and has not yet heard back.

Though he’s been out of the public eye, David made headlines last month when his estranged wife Lily Allen released her new album West End Girl, which alludes to infidelity on David’s part as one of the reasons for the downfall of their four-year marriage.

More from E! Online

In one track titled “Ruminating,” the Grammy nominee sings about being unable to “shake the image” of her husband’s mistress naked. In another called “Sleepwalking,” she says her partner lets her believe that her cheating paranoia is all in her head and has “nothing to do with them girls in your bed.”

While David has yet to speak publicly on Lily’s new album, he has discussed his mindset heading into the conclusion of the show that made him an “international star.”

“There’s all kinds of stuff: there’s sadness, there’s fear, but in general it also gives you an opportunity to have more time and space to do your own thing,” he told Esquire Spain in an interview published Nov. 1. “I’m excited about what I’ve learned over the years on Stranger Things.”

The Emmy nominee added, “As brilliant and wonderful as Stranger Things is—I do think it will stand the test of time, but I also think it will be a product of its time.”

As for how David feels about his not-so-young-anymore costars? He thinks they’re “pretty good kids” and have long careers ahead of them.

“I’m always here to help them out,” he continued, “but they’re on their own path. It’s a wild path, but they all seem to be doing great.”

Read on to learn behind-the-scenes secrets about Stranger Things.
