Cruz had just two holds in 32 appearances and has mostly worked in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, so it was rather surprising to see him get the ninth today. Alex Lange was unavailable after working the previous two days, but Cruz still got the call over Lucas Erceg and Matt Strahm. Perhaps he’ll be next in line in the ninth if Lange’s inconsistency gets to be too much for the Royals.
