A Royal expert has suggested that Prince Harry’s recent announcement reveals his “deep regrets” about leaving the UK. The Duke of Sussex wrote a heartfelt essay last week in honor of Remembrance Day, expressing his pride in serving his country and cautioning against forgetting veterans “once the uniform comes off.”
Harry, who completed two tours on the frontline in Afghanistan, discussed his experiences serving with individuals from all across the UK . He urged people to remember “not only the fallen, but the living” who bear the “weight of war”, and encouraged them to reach out to veterans, share a cup of tea or a pint, listen to their stories , and “remind them their service still matters.”
In his 647-word personal piece titled The Bond, The Banter, The Bravery: What it means to be British – By Prince Harry, the duke acknowledged that while he “currently” resides in the US, he maintains that “Britain is, and always will be, the country I proudly served and fought for.”
He characterized Remembrance as more than “not simply a minute’s silence”, describing it as “a call to collective responsibility.”
Now, a Royal expert believes that the duke’s letter indicates feelings of homesickness as he navigates his new life in California, following his departure from the Royal Family in 2020.
Veteran Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Fox News: “Harry’s essay on Remembrance Day showed him at his best and also highlighted his status as an exile.
“Exiles feel deep regret. He knows the military was the making of him after the trauma he suffered following the death of his mother, which still haunts him.
“He has given back with the Invictus Games, a remarkable achievement.
“His words clearly came from the heart and were all the more moving for that.
“His respect and affection for Queen Elizabeth II, whom he called ‘my Commander-in-Chief,’ is undoubted.”
Mr Fitzwilliams noted that Harry “widened his already deep rift” with the Royal family by publishing his explosive memoir in 2023, which he said gave him global reach but in a “destructive way”.
He continued: “So he is bound to have very deep regrets. The state of his father’s health is bound to add to them.”
The King is currently undergoing cancer treatment, a diagnosis that was publicly announced last year.
In an interview with the BBC earlier this year, Harry stated: “There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said. “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”
Since then, he has met with his father once during a four-day visit to the UK in September. The content of their conversation remains unknown.
