It feels like less than a year and a half since we were writing about TuneCore passing the milestone of $4bn payouts. Mainly because it IS less than a year and a half since we did that. Now the distributor has hit its next milestone: $5bn of payouts to independent artists since its launch in 2006.
A billion more dollars in 17 months means TuneCore has paid out an average of $58.8m a month over that period. It’s also a slight acceleration for the company’s payouts, as it took 18 months to go from $3bn to $4bn.
As TuneCore announced the latest figure, it also said that more than 75% of new artists and labels signing up for its service in the last year came from outside the US. “Reaching this milestone didn’t just happen; it’s the result of listening closely to what artists need today and evolving TuneCore to power their growth,” said CEO Andreea Gleeson [pictured].
