A hit Netflix drama with strong viewership momentum has received a significant Season 2 update. The development confirms the series’ next chapter is officially underway. It sets the stage for new story movement both on screen and behind the scenes.
The Hunting Wives Season 2 begins production
Production has begun on Season 2 of The Hunting Wives, Netflix confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) alongside a set photo featuring cast chairs for Sophie, Margo, and what the streamer identified as “Akerman’s wig.” The new eight-episode installment of the show, which has a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes, is filming in the United States.
Netflix confirmed additional returning cast for the season. The streamer promoted Karen Rodriguez’s Deputy Wanda Salazar and Hunter Emery’s Deputy Flynn to series regulars. Branton Box returns as Sheriff Johnny in a recurring guest role. These characters played central roles in Season 1’s investigations into Abby’s killing and the finale involving Margo’s brother Kyle.
Brittany Snow, Malin Akerman, Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier also return for the new season. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment produce the series, with Rebecca Cutter as creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Season 2 uses an original storyline that expands the narrative beyond May Cobb’s novel.
The official Season 2 logline states, “Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games, the question arises: Are they the hunters or the hunted?”
Season 1 concluded with unresolved events involving Sophie’s drunken driving crash into Margo’s brother, setting up new legal and personal consequences for both characters. Snow said she visited the Season 2 writers’ room to provide suggestions for Sophie’s direction and explained, “We want to see more Margo and Sophie because they really are so problematic, and they are the reason this show is crazy.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
