It’s been quite some time since any news about a U.S. version of Netflix’s hit Squid Game. Last we knew, House of Cards director David Fincher was attached to the project. And then updates about the project went silent, prompting speculations that the project was maybe shelved. However, as the recent update has it, the series is still happening – with a filming date now set.
The show, which is titled Squid Game: America, was recently listed on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website with a filming date of February 26, 2026, in Los Angeles.
It also listed Fincher as the director, with original Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk and producer Kim Ji-yeon serving as producers on the new series, alongside Fincher, Zeus Zamani, and Rhett Giles. The sole cast member confirmed so far is Cate Blanchett, which makes sense if you’re caught up on the original Squid Game Season 3’s finale.
A brief project summary describes the spin-off as “A US version of the Korean hit series, the spinoff is set in the same world but we get to see how the games are handled in America.”
While there seems to be no clarity on what exactly the spin-off will explore, it will likely rehash what we have already seen, probably bringing different games with an American makeover.
