Lafayette Library Board elects new leadership after delayed vote

The Lafayette Library Board chose Allan Moore and Ella Arsement as its new leaders after an earlier vote stalled, setting the direction for the 2025–26 term.

  • Lafayette offers a variety of events this weekend, from cultural festivals to live entertainment.
  • On Saturday, residents can attend Native American Culture Day or a gun and knife show.
  • The weekend also features theatrical performances, including “Menopause The Musical 2.”

Before you prepare a day of family, food and football for Thanksgiving, burn off a few calories with various events in Lafayette.  

Your guide to events in Lafayette this weekend 

Friday, Nov. 21 

  • Les Plumes Louisianaises: Join a group of writers passionate about French- and Creole-language literature in Louisiana. They work together to support literary creativity in the Franco-Creole community and provide an encouraging, welcoming space for members. Writers of all experience levels are welcome, and children who can play quietly are also invited to join them. The event will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Center for Louisiana Studies, 1204 Johnston St., Lafayette.  
  • Audrey Durio: Off the Hook: AcA Reaux Family Vault, taking place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Acadiana Center for the Arts, 101 W. Vermilion St., Lafayette. 
  • Menopause The Musical 2: Cruising Through ‘The Change’: All aboard! Menopause The Musical 2: Cruising Through “The Change” reunites the beloved quartet five years after their first meeting for more hilarious high-seas hijinks. This sequel blends laugh-out-loud fun with heartfelt moments as the ladies navigate menopause, friendship, and all the hot flashes and mood swings that come with it. Their journey of self-discovery unfolds to a new soundtrack of parodied hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. The event will take place at 7 p.m. at the Heymann Center, 1373 S. College Rd. Lafayette. 

Saturday, Nov. 22 

  • Native American Culture Day: Native American Culture Day is a free, family-friendly festival featuring cultural exhibits, demonstrations, and live entertainment. Tribal participants include the Louisiana Attakapas Eagle Tribe, the Atakapa-Ishak Nation of Southwest Louisiana, the Jean Charles Choctaw Nation, the Houma Nation, the Canneci-Tinne Lipan Apache, and the Natchitoches Tribe of Louisiana. Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy dancing, drumming, storytelling, hands-on activities, and more, with food and drinks available for purchase. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Vermilionville Living History Museum & Folklife Park, 300 Fisher Rd. Lafayette. 
  • 2A Events Gun & Knife Show: Buy, sell, trade, or browse at this event featuring hundreds of displays of new and vintage guns, ammo, parts, books, knives, jewelry, camouflage, militaria, and more. Bring your own gun to trade for the one you’ve always wanted. Great deals and unique finds await throughout the show. The event will be at 4607 Johnston St., Lafayette. Price: $10 for Adults, $2 for children 6-11. Under 18 admitted with a parent only. 
  • The RescYou Fest Under The Big Top: The Greatest Show In Heaven: The RescYou Fest is a family-friendly day of remembrance and community, honoring children who have passed away and supporting their families. Held at Blackham Coliseum, the event features themed family booths, performers, games, food, music, and prizes. The festival also raises awareness for The RescYou Group’s mission to provide financial and emotional support to grieving families. 

Sunday, Nov. 23 

  • Glenn Zeringue: Live music from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 507 W Pinhook Rd. Lafayette. 
  • Free Family Friendly BINGO: Family-friendly bingo from 4 to 6 p.m. at 329 Dulles Dr., Lafayette. 
  • Giving Voice: A Community Writing Project for Women: A creative space for women to access, document, and share their stories, this workshop at Basin Arts invites participants to explore creative writing practices that support nervous system regulation. Attendees will engage in creative processes while building community through collective story sharing. The event takes place from 2 to 3 p.m. at Basin Arts, 126 S. Buchanan St, Lafayette, and admission is free.
