Jac Caglianone’s clutch pinch-hit gives Kansas City Royals first sweep of the season

The Kansas City Royals certainly haven’t had the season they were hoping for so far, at one point becoming the worst team in the MLB with an eight-game losing streak. Things could not be more opposite for former Florida Gator Jac Caglianone, though, in his second season up in the majors, as the former Gator has really come into his own.

After some highlight games in right field against the Detroit Tigers during the Royals’ losing streak. Cags helped the Royals actually get on a three-game win streak with a clutch pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs.

After having what he thought would be a full off day on Sunday, Cags ended up being the hero for the Royals against the Los Angeles Angels. After an early 6-0 deficit, the game went into a rain delay in the sixth inning that ended up helping the Royals.

The Royals were able to make it a 7-4 ballgame going into the delay, and the Angels added one more on in the top of the ninth to make it 8-5 after the Royals got on in the bottom of the eighth. After two quick outs to start the inning, the Royals went on a little hitting run that resulted in one run from Vinnie Pasquantino, a clutch hit from Salvy, and the Cags coming in to pinch-hit.

After getting an inside pitch that he missed, Cags didn’t make the same mistake twice and absolutely crushed the ball, hooking it just inside the foul pole for a game-tying two-run home run.

While Cags didn’t hit the game-winner, that would be Lane Thomas with a three-run shot with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning; his home run allowed the Royals to have a shot at winning.

Cags has really come into form this season, seeing the ball a lot better at the plate, as well as being an excellent right fielder, making the transition from first base quickly and smoothly.
