Meghan Markle‘s guest appearance on “MasterChef Australia” continues to spark chaos behind the scenes.
The Duchess of Sussex filmed an episode for the beloved cooking reality show earlier this year during her and Prince Harry’s tour of the southern hemisphere.
Now, with the episode set to air days away, sources have opened up about an incident on set that ruffled feathers for one of the judges.
As the episode premieres, insiders share that judge Poh Ling Yeow isn’t pleased with how she introduced the Duchess.
In a promo of the “MasterChef Australia” segment, Yeow could be heard announcing Meghan’s presence, saying, “We’ve had MasterChef royalty in the kitchen before but no one like this.”
She continued, “All the way from sunny California, please welcome to MasterChef Australia … The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle!”
Unfortunately, the unintentional description of Meghan as “royalty” caused quite some strain, as she specifically asked not to be addressed that way. The little mistake has since left Yeow feeling “upset.”
A source explained the situation to Sky News, saying, “It wasn’t about Meghan personally. Poh felt she had been unintentionally drawn into a royal protocol issue she never intended to be part of.”
Another informant noted the cooking personality volunteered to apologize to Meghan but was advised against it, leaving production to deal with the mess.
Meghan Markle Was ‘Very Frustrated’ About Royal Protocol Blunder
It comes as no surprise that Yeow feels burdened by her slip of tongue given Meghan’s reaction to the introduction.
As The Blast previously reported, the “Suits” alum was quite unhappy with being described as a royal despite her instructions. It left her “very frustrated,” an insider said of the incident.
She reportedly had no idea that she was introduced that way, as she wasn’t present when the segment was filmed. It wasn’t until the promo was aired that it became known.
Meghan and her team were hoping to avoid any unnecessary drama and discussion about her and Harry’s royal status, hence why her initial request.
Inside Personality Differences On ‘MasterChef Australia’ Set
The fumbled royal protocol wasn’t the only cause of tension between Yeow and the Duchess, another informant confirmed.
Apparently, differences in personality between the pair were evident while filming, causing producers to edit out the awkwardness. The insider explained:
“Poh is full of energy – she’s always joking and lifting the mood. She tried to bring that same spark with Meghan, cracking a few playful lines, but not all of it landed as intended.”
The moment didn’t project well on camera enough to make it to the final cut.

The drama behind the scenes wasn’t anything compared to the backlash Meghan faced for appearing on the competition-based reality show.
Back in April, during the Sussexes’ Australia visit, it was confirmed that the royal was filming the episode, and the audience was anything but thrilled about it.
Trolls wasted no time bashing Meghan for seeking privacy but never shying away from the spotlight any chance she gets.
“Markle and Harry are modern-day carnival barkers. They’re finished in the US, so time to pack up and head to AU for a new grift,” one critic slammed, per The Blast.
A similar remark read, “For someone that wants privacy and to stay out of the press, this is a very bizarre thing to do… much like her shows! Very contradictory.”
Plans To Boycott Meghan Markle’s Episode Emerge
With Meghan’s “MasterChef Australia” debut set to air on Sunday, July 26, angered viewers have expressed every intention not to watch.
Some vowed to boycott the show altogether, while others expressed relief that the episodes wouldn’t air in the United States.
It comes as no surprise that Meghan was invited given her success with her Netflix lifestyle show, “With Love, Meghan,” where she shares recipes, gardening and homemaking tips. With two successful seasons under her belt, she was undoubtedly the right choice, the show’s promotion explained.
As for why Meghan decided to appear on “MasterChef Australia,” she said, “Two things: my love of food and my love of Australia. It was an easy yes. It’s such a great show. I’m just really honored that I was asked to be able to be here,” per The Blast.
