Anne Wilson has added a brand new unreleased song, ‘Who I Am to You’, to her summer setlist, before asking fans to decide whether she should give the track an official release.

Judging by the comments in her latest social media post, it’s a resounding, ‘Yes please, Anne!’ The comments section has quickly filled with people saying they could not wait to hear the full version, while others insisted Anne simply “doesn’t make a bad song”.

From the short section Anne has shared, ‘Who I Am to You’ sounds deeply rooted in her Christian faith but it carries the confidence and attitude of a mainstream country anthem.

Although gospel music has been the bedrock of country music for centuries, a new wave of artists are enjoying immense success in this blossoming slip-stream of country-Christian crossovers, such as Brandon Lake and Josiah Queen. This sub-genre clearly is resonating with fans, maybe in ways it hasn’t done in recent years.

The lyrics focus on refusing to be defined by past mistakes or by the voice of the enemy, instead finding identity in how God sees her. It is a powerful message of renewal, but Wilson does not deliver it quietly. There is real bite behind the words, giving the song the kind of sass and energy that feels completely at home in a summer country set.

Anne first broke through in Christian music with ‘My Jesus’, but she has never hidden her love of country either. Her 2024 album REBEL brought those two worlds together more deliberately, pairing songs about faith with country production and collaborations involving artists including Lainey Wilson and Jordan Davis. Whilst Lainey has released a gospel track with Brandon Lake, it feels like there is a spot for a female Christian country artist to find a mainstream spotlight.

Anne has always made it clear that moving into the country world did not mean she would be leaving any part of herself behind. As Anne puts it on her own website, she loves God and she loves country music and there can be a beautiful mix of both.

Faith, sin, forgiveness and redemption have been stitched through country music since its earliest beginnings. Johnny Cash recorded gospel albums throughout his career, Dolly Parton has never separated her faith from her storytelling and songs such as Carrie Underwood’s ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ proved that an openly Christian message could still connect far beyond a ‘Christian Genre’ niche.

What feels different about Anne in particular is the confidence with which she brings both sides together. She does not soften the faith to suit country audiences and she does not remove the steel, humour or swagger that country music allows her to show.

That authenticity is grounded in a deeply personal story. Wilson first sang publicly at the funeral of her older brother Jacob, whose death changed the direction of her life. What began in unimaginable grief eventually led to a career built around hope, belief and helping other people feel less alone in their own hardest moments.

‘Who I Am to You’ seems to continue that powerful journey. It is not a song pretending the past never happened, more that the past will never get the final word.

The Kentucky native may still be asking whether she should release it, but between the response from the crowd and the flood of support beneath her post, it sounds as though her fans have already answered for her. Release it, Anne!
