The Prince and Princess of Wales have stepped out at the Royal Variety Show for their “own private date night.”
Princess Kate joined her husband at the beloved event at London’s Royal Albert Hall, where she beamed for cameras in a figure-hugging dark green velvet gown featuring an off-the-shoulder detail. The 43-year-old then completed her look with her signature loose curls and diamond drop earrings, matching William’s dapper look of a black velvet suit.
This marks the sixth time the royal pair have attended the show, and notably, the first since Kate’s recovery from cancer in 2024. The couple seemed to be in high spirits, with “flirty” exchanges as they walked the red carpet and appeared in their royal box to watch the performance.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror US, body language expert Judi James has analyzed the gestures and looks between the Prince and Princess of Wales.
James explained, “The royals haven’t always appeared totally keen to sit through the long hours of the Royal Variety show, but William and Kate bring a new keenness and energy to the night, turning it into their own private date night as well as a charitable event.”
“Kate and William are often at their flirtiest best when they are both fully glammed up for a red-carpet appearance, and while Kate looks radiant here, William’s body language appears slightly bashful as he walks beside her. His hands hang slightly in front of his torso, and his puckered smile suggests he’s slightly overwhelmed by the grinning glances Kate throws at him.”
She continued, “Kate looks confident here, walking ahead to greet the hosts, but with one eyebrow raised in that flirty signal as she looks across to William, and he responds with a hand on her back in a gesture of steering and protection.”
The Royal Variety Performance, now in its remarkable 113th year, initially occurred in 1912, with King George V and Queen Mary present.
Annually, members of the royal family grace the occasion, and this year, William, 43, and Kate were in attendance, having previously appeared together at the performance in 2023.
The event is an annual, televised variety show in the United Kingdom attended by senior members of the British royal family to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity, and is considered the longest-running entertainment show in the world.
This year’s spectacle was hosted by comedian Jason Manford and featured performances from the likes of Jessie J, Katherine Jenkins and the cast of Les Misérables.
There was also a magic act, a guest appearance from Sir Stephen Fry and even a Japanese acrobatic performance, along with many other exciting presentations, all in aid of charity.
