BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A junior at the Alabama School of Fine Arts will be featured in an upcoming episode of an NPR program showcasing exceptional young musicians from across the country.
Henry Hewitt will appear on a forthcoming installment of “From the Top” on NPR sometime next year. Originally from Mobile, Hewitt began playing piano when he was 6 six years old and has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York as part of the Winner’s Recital in 2023.
“Henry’s artistry, dedication, and stunning musicianship have earned him a place among the top young performers in the country, and we couldn’t be more proud,” the school stated on its Facebook page.
Early in his performing career, Hewitt studied with Robert Holm, professor of music at the University of South Alabama. Among Hewitt’s influences are composer Franz Liszt and South Korean pianist Yunchan Lim.
As part of being on “From the Top,” Hewitt will also be a fellow in the show’s learning and media lab.
