Sonu Nigam joins new Asia-focused entertainment company Pacific Music Group

Indian film playback and pop icon Sonu Nigam, along with American R&B star Ne-Yo and Chinese-American hip-hop pioneer MC Jin and veteran music executive Jonathan Serbin, is part of the newly-launched Pacific Music Group, a new Hong Kong-headquartered entertainment company that “aims to build world-class music careers from the heart of Asia”.

The company, which will “focus on discovering, mentoring, developing, and promoting the region’s most promising talent” also plans to offer international artists a entry point into Asia, which is now home to three of the world’s largest music markets, Japan, China, and South Korea, and some of its fastest-growing territories such as India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

Pacific Music Group, which will operate with offices and talent hubs across the continent, will launch multiple genre-spanning imprints, including those for pop, R&B, hip-hop, electronic music, and regional Asian styles, with its first group of artists and releases scheduled over the next few months. Nigam, Ne-You—who is of Chinese descent—and MC Jin, who will helm the hip-hop imprint, will provide A&R guidance and mentorship to the label’s artists.

The launch of Pacific Music Group speaks to, as Indian and Asian artists “want to connect well beyond our borders”, as Nigam says, but also how they are now looking to expand within the region. While there are now several new sub-labels from the likes of Sony, Universal and Warner working to break South Asian music internationally, Hybe recently opened an office in India.
