King Charles and his younger brother Andrew are reportedly at odds.

The King made a scathing announcement that his disgraced sibling would be formally stripped of his Royal titles, expressing his support for “survivors of any and all forms of abuse.” It was also revealed that Andrew would be relinquishing his opulent residence, the Royal Lodge.

Due to an “iron-clad” long-term lease that Andrew held for the 30-room mansion with the Crown Estate, the monarch couldn’t force his brother out.

Instead, the former prince had to voluntarily agree to leave the Grade II listed property near Windsor Castle.

For many years, Andrew cohabited the home with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, but when they finally depart, they will ultimately be parting ways, as the scandal over their connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein continues to unravel.

Sources told The Royalist newsletter: “Andrew is demanding a substantial six or seven bedroom house on the Sandringham Estate, complete with staff, including a cook, gardener, housekeeper, driver, and police security”.

Despite his public fall from grace, Andrew reportedly continues to demand that staff address him using his Royal titles in private, even though his older brother has officially revoked them. A former courtier told The Royalist about the ongoing discussions regarding Andrew’s accommodation arrangements with the King: “Knowing Andrew, this was always going to be about money. Andrew is essentially being bought out of the lease, so he will haggle over every last detail of the deal.”

His 75-year lease on Royal Lodge made him responsible for upkeep and significant repairs, though it was recently disclosed that he paid only a “peppercorn” rent for the luxurious residence. Prince Edward’s residence at Bagshot Park has been revealed to operate under a comparable arrangement.

Andrew likely anticipated passing the valuable lease on the sprawling estate to his daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, but he will no longer be able to do so once he officially relinquishes it. Biographer Andrew Lownie told The Mirror that Andrew’s efforts to secure the best possible deal for himself are understandable, given he is surrendering the long repair lease.

“[He] had a very strong lease, one has to be practical, this was the only way to get him out, and it’s not taxpayer’s money thats being spent, thats up to Charles,” the author explained, adding: “I think it has lanced the boil and averted what was turning out to be a major crisis so I can understand why he has done it.”

He continued, “Life isn’t always fair,” but Andrew “had put £8.5million into this house which he expected to have for his children until 2078, so you know just to be fair to him this what happens when you take out long-leases, you know get some benefits from it, so I don’t think we can quibble about that.”

The reports regarding ongoing negotiations and Andrew’s reported reluctance to budge emerge as King Charles has stripped two significant Royal honors from his younger brother, removing additional privileges of Royal life. Andrew has been removed from the 700-year-old Order of the Garter and the Royal Victorian Order, where he held the positions of Knight Companion and Knight Grand Cross, respectively.

In the revealing book ‘Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York’, a former staff member of Prince Andrew’s shared with author David Lownie that the Duke’s primary grievance is not the allegations of sexual misconduct, but rather the loss of his Royal titles. “Remember, the most difficult thing for the Duke of York was not the allegations of sexual misconduct. It was being stripped of his royal titles and losing his key role with the Royal Family. He’s never gotten over this,” the staffer was quoted as saying.

After a 22-year tenure in the Royal Navy, Andrew’s sole remaining title is Vice Admiral. However, there are ongoing calls for even this to be revoked.
