James Cameron can now say that four of his movies have passed the billion mark at the box office. The latest is the newest chapter in the “Avatar” universe, as “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has passed the billion mark due to a high box office weekend.

Per reports, the latest sequel has now brought in $306 million domestically and $777.1 internationally, bringing the total to $1.083 billion at the box office.

Joining Cameron’s pantheon of blockbuster hits, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Avatar,” and “Titanic” have all been hugely successful behind the writer/director/producer’s creation and guidance.

There is a small caveat to the latest sequel passing the billion mark. “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has crossed the billion mark in 18 days, which is the longest it has taken a film in the franchise to do so. The first “Avatar” film did so in 17 days, while the first sequel, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” secured that box office amount in 14 days.

This may or may not point to the latest movie’s box office staying power, and could be impacted should the movie make its way to VOD and streaming, which has been the usual case for most movies. This is regardless of their success in cinemas.

Either way, the latest success of Cameron’s sci-fi franchise should bode well for the further entries. The fan-favorite creator did state that he would make “Avatar” 4 and 5 books, should the box office gains not be enough to help keep the franchise in the theater.

The first “Avatar” secured $2.93 billion, while “Avatar: The Way of Water” brought in $2.343 billion. The first film in the franchise holds the top spot in terms of highest-grossing movies all-time, while the sequel sits at No. 3 behind “Avengers: Endgame,” which earned $2.799 billion, per Box Office Mojo.

Should “Avatar: Fire and Ash” bring in something close to the first sequel, Cameron will have four of the top five highest-grossing films in cinema history.

Either way, the “Avatar” franchise continues to do well, and Disney is likely wanting to keep the magic going for as long as possible.
