Drew Barrymore is speaking out about how she convinced comedy icon Adam Sandler to be her movie partner.
Back in 1998, fans fell in love with Drew and Adam in the hit romantic comedy The Wedding Singer. This movie marked the first of three collaborations; the two later starred in 2004’s 50 First Dates and 2014’s Blended.
So, how did Drew and Adam’s partnership come to be all those years ago? Drew spoke about it during a behind-the-scenes moment on The Drew Barrymore Show. It turns out she let Adam know her intentions about acting with him and predicted they would work together multiple times throughout their careers.
“I never thought or dreamt that when I met Adam Sandler for the first time at a coffee shop, I had purple hair and a leopard jacket,” she stated in a clip posted on Instagram on January 8. “He showed up in Sandler core!”
“[I said] ‘I know we don’t look like a match, but I know that we’re a match,'” she added. “‘And I believe that we’re supposed to make many movies over many decades! Will you just have faith and see if we can find something to do together?’ And we found The Wedding Singer!”
Fans all but pleaded with her to get back on screen with him ASAP.
“Yes please!! More movies together. You guys have the best chemistry,” one person begged in the comments. “We want more! We want more! We want more!” another agreed. “And we need more movies with Drew and Adam 😍,” a different follower added.
