
Aamir Khan shares update on long awaited ‘Mahabharata’ project
Aamir Khan has once again stirred interest in his long-cherished dream project, Mahabharata, sharing rare insight into why the film is still in progress.
In his recent chat, the 60-year-old star revealed that Mahabharata he’s moving carefully before making it.
Speaking to celebrity.land-News18, the veteran actor explained that the epic holds immense emotional and cultural significance for Indians, and rushing it could risk falling short of expectations.
He told the publisher that while Mahabharata is a dream project, he’s cautious because of the story’s deep cultural significance.
Furthermore, he stressed that adapting such a deeply rooted story comes with accountability, adding, “Making a film, which is so fundamental for all Indians, is also a big responsibility. I often say this, ‘You can let Mahabharata down, Mahabharata will never let you down.’ You do a bad job, you’ll let it down.”
Moreover, the actor spoke about the global movie industry and why Mahabharata stands apart despite the success of large-scale Hollywood franchises.
“Over the years, we have seen a lot of Hollywood films which are big entertainers, Lord of the Rings or Avatar. The world has seen it all. But this (Mahabharata) is the mother of it all,” he said, noting that a well-made adaptation would make Indians proud.
Interestingly, reports suggest that Mahabharata could be Aamir’s final film.
In June 2025, while speaking to Raj Shamani, the actor hinted at stepping away after the project, saying, “Maybe after doing this, I will feel that I have nothing left to do. I cannot do anything after this, as the material of this film is going to be like that.”
