It’s been a couple of years since Wendy Eisenberg’s last album, Viewfinder. Last year they were busy rocking out on the great Editrix album The Big E and the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet among other projects, but in November they shared the twangy tune “Will You Dare.” Now they’re back with the announcement of a new folk-leaning solo LP called Wendy Eisenberg.
“Working in a very homegrown way was essential — these songs came out very delicately and were allergic to false steps,” Eisenberg says. “This is the first record I’ve made with an extensive backlog of songs, and I chose these because they felt spiritually the truest to how I have been moving through this new world right now.”
The album has a crew of collaborators, including bassist Trevor Dunn, drummer Ryan Sawyer, and co-producer Mari Rubio (aka more eaze) who also took on pedal steel, synth, and string arrangement. During the making of the record, Eisenberg relocated to Brooklyn and became a full-time assistant professor of songwriting.
The lead single “Meaning Business” is out today. It was written after David Lynch’s death and is inspired by the late filmmaker’s “alien sense of Americanness.” Check it out below.
