Catherine Hardwicke, who would later make a name for herself with the vampire romance “Twilight,” first went to Sundance in 1989. It would be the year that put the festival on the map, though Hardwicke couldn’t have known it at the time. She had studied film at UCLA and was embarking on a career as a production designer.
