While it is not known whether Queen Camilla is a fan of the Spice Girls, it is believed that one of the girl band members is certainly a fan of her. On Wednesday, Her Majesty stepped out in Gloucestershire to visit Maggie’s Cheltenham centre – a centre that helps people affected by cancer.
This is because former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner joined Her Majesty at the centre to learn more about its work and the impact the charity has on people. Geri, as a supporter of the charity, was invited by Her Majesty to the event.
Talking about her view on Queen Camilla afterwards, Geri said: “I am such a big fan of the Queen, I think she is amazing, she is stoic, she is fantastic – a formidable force of nature.”
The Queen has visited 18 of Maggie’s 27 centres, with the first one having opened in the grounds of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in 1996.
The centres offer care for people who have been impacted by cancer, including free psychological, emotional and practical support.
At the event, Her Majesty gave a speech praising the work the centres do and the impact they have on people who are undergoing cancer treatment. In the speech, Camilla praised the late Maggie Keswick Jencks, who founded the charity.
She said: “Maggie was convinced that people living with cancer crave a beautiful, comforting environment as they face the unknown.
“A place where they need not pretend to be fine, where they can receive expert support, sympathy and a cup of tea – and where laughter can come as naturally as tears, because sometimes that’s what’s wanted.”
The visit was especially poignant for Camilla, whose husband King Charles has been undergoing cancer treatment for around two years.
