Neil Young is giving the gift of music in support of Greenland.
The “Heart of Gold” singer, 80, will be giving away a year of free access to his online Neil Young Archives to “all of our friends in Greenland,” he announced in a post on his website dated Jan. 27.
The move, which includes Young’s catalog of music, came in response to President Donald Trump in recent weeks declaring his intention for the United States to seize control of Greenland.
Young, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump for years, described his offer as a “gesture of kindness and respect” for Greenland, telling fans there that “all the music I have made during the last 62 years is yours to hear.” A subscription to Young’s website usually costs between $24.99 and $99.99 per year.

He also wrote, “I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.”
Earlier this month, Trump said the United States would seize control of Greenland “the easy way” or “the hard way.” On Jan. 21, he announced that officials had reached a “framework of a future deal” on Greenland after meeting with Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, in Davos, Switzerland. Trump did not share details of the framework. He also said in Davos that he was seeking “immediate negotiations to acquire Greenland,” but would not use “excessive strength and force” to do so.

Young has spoken out against Trump in the past, including in 2020, when he penned a scathing open letter describing him as a “disgrace to my country.” That same year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer also spoke out to say he was “NOT ok” with Trump using his music during an event at Mount Rushmore.
In a post on his website earlier this month, Young wrote that the United States “is a disaster” and that Trump “is destroying America bit by bit.”

Young’s Greenland offer came after he once again slammed Amazon in a post on his website dated Jan. 23, declaring his music will “never be available” there as long as the company is run by Jeff Bezos, even though this decision is “harmful to my record company in the short term.” He previously announced he would remove his catalog from Amazon Music in October.
