A walk through NFL and country music history.
It’s safe to say it’s been a hell of an NFL season. From teams like the Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos and Jacksonville Jaguars capturing playoff wins in surprising fashion after some less-than-noteworthy seasons over the past few years to the Cleveland Browns star edge rusher, Myles Garrett, capturing the single-season sack record, it’s been one of the most exciting and unpredictable football seasons in recent memory.
With the unpredictability and new cast of playoff teams this year came some of the best postseasons in what felt like ages. From the Wild Card round to the Conference Championships, there truly wasn’t a bad set of games, highlighted primarily the Chicago Bears wild 21-3 halftime comeback against the injury-ridden Green Bay Packers, the controversial end to the Denver Broncos divisional round win against the Buffalo Bills and the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams shootout that saw Seattle taking home the victory en route to their first Super Bowl appearance in 12 years.
Now that the dust has settled, it’s officially going to be a rematch of Super Bowl XLIX with the New England Patriots taking on the Seattle Seahawks.
Given that Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching and the teams are set, I thought that now’s the best time to take a look back at what the #1 country songs were at the time each team won their last Super Bowl.
Unfortunately for fans of Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans and Jacksonville Jaguars, all of whom are still searching for that elusive first Super Bowl ring, none of these teams will be on the list. For the other 20 teams who have won a Super Bowl over the past 59 years, you’ll find your most recent championship win somewhere on the list.
Given that there are multiple country charts such as Billboard’s Hot Country Songs, Billboard’s Country Airplay and Mediabase, I’ve decided to pull from Billboard’s Hot Country Songs due to it being the primary chart used throughout the history of both country music and the Super Bowl era.
