“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday said President Donald Trump tried to dispel concerns about his health by speaking to a reporter from New York magazine for an interview that was published earlier this week.

“Unfortunately the interview went sideways almost immediately,” Colbert said.

Trump during the interview appeared to forget the word “Alzheimer’s” while denying he had the disease, instead pointing to his head and letting White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt come up with the word.

“Not a great sign there,” Colbert said. “And I’m certainly not saying Donald Trump has Alzheimer’s, but I feel like he definitely has some-zheimer’s.”

Trump, who turns 80 this year, has faced growing concerns about his health since returning to the White House.

He’s seemingly had flagging energy levels during White House events, at times appearing to doze off. He’s been seen with bruises on his hand, which he has said is from using aspirin and shaking a lot of hands. The president has also had noticeably swollen ankles, which the White House has said is due to chronic venous insufficiency, which involves poor blood flow from the legs back to the heart.

But some of the biggest questions have been about his cognitive health, with critics ― especially Democrats ― suggesting he’s in decline or worse. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), a former House speaker, said earlier this month that Trump is demonstrating “mental incapacity.”

Even two members of his previous administration have said they’ve seen signs of his decline.

Trump tried to answer those critics in the new interview ― but Colbert didn’t find it very convincing.
