Lady Gaga brought fiancé Michael Polansky as her Grammys date tonight, and the couple was filmed having an especially sweet moment after Gaga won Best Pop Vocal Album. When her name was called, they embraced.
Onstage, she started his speech with a shout-out to her partner.
“I have to say thank you, first, to my partner, Michael,” she said. “I love you so much. You are by my side every single day in a way that I can’t thank you enough for, and you worked so hard with me on this record all year. So I love you, and thank you.”
He blew kisses as the camera panned to him during her speech:
Polansky helped Gaga create her album Mayhem, which received six of her seven nominations this evening. The full album is up for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album; its single “Abracadabra” is nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Dance Pop Recording categories; and its track “Disease” is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance.
Last January, the couple spoke to ELLE about their relationship and making music together. Gaga told Polansky that he “helped write, like, seven songs!”
He elaborated on the experience, saying, “It’s been one of the most incredible parts of this chapter of my life, to live with and coexist alongside someone making art and being creative in ways that very few people get to experience. I think of myself as really lucky to have been there for it.”
Mayhem particularly “was so much fun to watch her make,” he said. “She recorded it right down the street from our house, so we could easily walk back and forth from the studio. I spent a lot of time with her, bringing my laptop to work while she was there. What surprised me most was how fast she is. I couldn’t believe how quickly a song would take shape. Within five minutes, 80 percent of the song would have come from nothing.”
