Controversial royal reporter Omid Scobie has unveiled his new book, Royal Spin, on social media, but made an obvious “error”. As he unboxed the new book, the title of the book appeared backwards, thanks to an inverted video camera.
Taking a copy out of a box, Omid appears pleased with the result, calling the covers “nice and bright”, but he acknowledges the writing might appear inverted because of his video camera. He said: “That’s probably the wrong way round, I don’t know how to flip the camera. But there she is.”
Co-written with US young adult fiction author, Robin Benway, Royal Spin tells the story of a young American woman called Lauren Morgan, who leaves her press role for a job at Buckingham Palace. The book is published by Sphere Fiction.
One user on X wrote: “Why is the book backwards?” Another said, “Pass, I’m bored already listening to his book pitch.”
A third, added: “Why can’t he show us the book properly?
Meanwhile, many of Omid’s fans are excited to read the upcoming book. One wrote: “Congratulations! Can’t wait to read it! Great to learn that there’s going to be more.”
Another said: “So excited for you and so looking forward to reading it!”
The writer went on to explain that the project was a welcome break from “a crazy and chaotic number of years covering the royals” and said he and Benway had “both really enjoyed” working on the book.
The plot revolves around female protagonist Lauren Morgan, who becomes involved in a love triangle, explains Omid in his video.
Last year it was reported Universal Television was also developing a series based on the book, with Omid serving as writer, co-creator and executive producer.
Royal Spin is due to be published on February 11 in the UK.
