A potential break has finally come in the case of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, with the release of surveillance images of a suspect to the public 10 days after the 84-year-old was reported missing.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home the night of January 31, after being dropped back at the property following a dinner with family members. She was reported missing the next day after failing to attend a church service. 

Now, after alleged deadlines for a ransom have passed, and more pleas by the family for any information and help that could locate their missing mother, a potential break has finally come following the FBI’s release of surveillance images that were uncovered from Nancy Guthrie’s doorbell camera. It comes after an ex-FBI agent revealed the hidden codeword that Savannah used in her message to the kidnappers.

Footage from the camera was initially unavailable because she did not pay a subscription fee to store images or videos, and authorities have revealed that the camera was disconnected at 1:47 a.m. on February 1. 

Now, with the images released to the public, a potential break could come for the family in the desperate search–after they made an admission to the FBI that necessitated releasing the photos.

According to NBC News, the Guthrie family, after being notified of the images by the FBI, admitted they did not recognize the person featured in them. 

Because of this, the FBI chose to post the videos and images publicly, in the hope that someone might recognize the individual pictured or the clothing or items seen in them, which would help break the case wide open. 

In the images, a figure is seen wearing a ski mask, black gloves, khaki pants, and a jacket, with a backpack on their shoulders. They can be seen trying to remove the Nest camera from her door. 

The potential subject also appears armed in the photos, with NBC’s Tom Winter saying, “It does appear to be a gun.”

Following the public release, Savannah Guthrie, 54, issued another desperate plea on her social media, sharing images of the subject of interest. 

Taking to Facebook, she wrote, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home. Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.” 

She shared a similar message on Instagram, where she has previously shared videos issuing pleas that appear to be aimed directly at the kidnappers, as well as ones to the general public.

In a third video featuring herself and her siblings, which came after an initial video of all three and a second that just featured her brother, Camron, she appeared to address an alleged ransom, indicating the family would pay if it was what it took to bring her home.

“We have received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” Savannah said in the clip. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.” 

The video appeared to address the ransom, which was reported to be a demand for $6 million in Bitcoin, with two deadlines to pay: Thursday, February 5, and February 9.

In a fourth video shared on Monday, ahead of the alleged second deadline, the Today star appeared solo as she asked the public for help.
