Mariska Hargitay is getting personal with her thoughts on the 2026 Winter Olympics.
The worldwide sporting event is in full swing in Milano-Cortina, Italy, and the Law and Order: SVU star is one of the many famous faces in the stands. While folks didn’t necessarily realize that Mariska, along with her husband, Peter Hermann, was in attendance, they picked up on the couple’s whereabouts in a way no one expected.
During the women’s downhill skiing event on February 8, viewers worldwide watched as decorated athlete Lindsey Vonn crashed just seconds into her run, ultimately being airlifted to a local hospital, where it was confirmed that she sustained a complex tibia fracture. She’ll require multiple surgeries as part of her recovery.
It was a stunning moment for viewers at home and on the ground alike, with NBC cameras quickly panning to the crowd to capture the audience’s reaction.
As a post from X user @FridaysAt9 showed, the network caught Mariska as she watched Lindsey’s crash in real-time. What’s more, the actress appeared to be in shock from seeing what was happening to the skier in her seventh appearance overall at an Olympic Games.
When fans realized they had caught Mariska at the Olympics, they commented online.
“Wait?! Mariska’s there and I missed it?! Damn it. When was this on??? 😭💔 god I hope Lindsey is okay,” one person wrote on X.
“As soon as you posted this, everyone who saw it made the noise,” another penned.

Although we don’t know much about Mariska’s friendship with Lindsey, it’s fair to say she was affected by the incident. As she later posted on Instagram, she commended Lindsey for making it this far in her career.
“Lindsey, you are glorious,” she wrote in a typed image on February 9. “I am in awe. You have every medal around your neck that I can think of. The courage, strength, determination, resilience, badass, next-level warrior medals are the obvious ones. But the medals that I hope you wear most proudly are the ones that say ‘I didn’t stop short of finding out how hard I push, how far I can go.’ And ‘I won’t ever have to ask what would have happened if I’d tried.’ And ‘I have no regrets.’ And ‘I was deeply, authentically true to who I am.’”
“You are standing on the podium of everything that matters, and I hope you hear the crazy cheering and applause, mine and everyone else’s,” she added. “I’m so grateful to call you my friend, and you inspire me more than you can know.”
