With the search for missing Nancy Guthrie now entering its third week, the sheriff leading the investigation is still hopeful the 84-year-old is alive – and has shared an inspirational message to her.
Nancy was reported missing on February 1, after her family last saw her on January 31, when she was dropped off at her home after a dinner at her daughter’s home.
However, despite the small breaks in the case, Nancy still hasn’t been found and no suspects have been named.
And now, in a new interview, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has shared a positive message.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Nanos shared the direct message he would give to Nancy if he could speak to her directly, indicating he firmly believes she is still alive.
“We’re not giving up on you,” he said, “We’re gonna find you. Just…stay safe as best you can. We’ll find you.”
He also noted that the most crucial evidence has been the doorbell camera footage released by the FBI after they accessed it, and said he feels it is the best way to identify the person who took Guthrie.
“I believe somebody out there knows who this is,” he said. “I believe somebody out there can look at that video and go, ‘I know exactly who that is.’ And that’s what our plea is to the community. If you go back in history–like at cases like the Unabomber–they were found out because somebody in the community, somebody a family member, a neighbor, called and said, ‘I think I know who did this.’”
The new commentary comes as authorities continue to focus on new details uncovered from the released footage, including cops focusing on local Walmart stores after confirming that the backpack the person in the video was wearing was sold exclusively at their stores.
The case has earned massive nationwide attention since first breaking, including from the president of the United States, who has also weighed in on the case from time to time.
However, while Nanos, Trump and Guthrie’s family are all still remaining positive that Nancy is alive, one former FBI agent has shared a more gruesome outlook, admitting in a recent interview that they fear she is “no longer with us.”
